Game Boy Turns 30


The Game Boy turns 30 today!

Who would have thought when this brick game first came out, it would have change hand-held gaming.

With it specifications listed below

Would go on to be one of Nintendo best invention, and would revolutionize the gaming industry.

Imagine being on the go and being able to play some of your favorite games.

First released in Japan on April 21st 1989 and then to the US couple months later, Europe got theirs the following year. The handheld was sold as a stand-alone system or with either Mario bro or Tetris. Several accessories were also developed, including a carrying pouch and printer.

With such popularity and over a billion units being sold over the years, the Gameboy had several redesign.

  • Games Boy Light (1998 Japan)
  • Game Boy Colour (1998)
  • Game Boy Advance (2001)

The last Game Boy, being the Game Boy micro was sold the public in 2005, with not so much fan fare as the previous models, due to lack of backward compatibility to its predecessors.

With its dimensions of 50x101x17.2mm and weighing only 2.8 oz this would be the smallest and lightest Game Boy, Nintendo have produced.
